Slightly-Longer Bio

I am Eduardo Jáuregui Martínez, writer, editor, and translator. I mostly write fiction with a Mexican touch and more than a sprinkle of melancholy on the side. It is my goal to show the beauty and the depth of the everyday life with either the endless possibilities of fiction or the closer (and yet no less incredible) realms of non-fiction. Someone once told me that I write English with the taste of a Romance language, and I haven't look back since then!

Hailing from the Bajío region in Mexico, it is in my animated hometown of Irapuato where my love for the written word started. Growing up with both the classics, such as Jules Verne's or Emilio Salgari's tales of adventure and faraway lands, and with contemporary fiction such as Christopher Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, the desire to one day follow along the footsteps of such childhood names brewed within me. It wasn't strange for me to start "novels" that reached the finish line--the time before I had to worry about structure and character arcs!

But writing became a real deal when I started college in a totally different department. There was something missing. College essays just wasn't cutting it. After taking a creative writing class with the original intention to just escape from more essays, something clicked in me. I started writing like I haven't done in years. It just felt right. That's why after some long delays, I took the plunge, moving to California, to a completely new country, a completely new environment, to study Creative Writing, making up for the lost time.

And the rest is history.
